Photographing cold war Military architecture and industrial installations at night
Photographing cold war Military architecture night. I photograph things that I like and I like architecture, I like decay, I like big industrial machinery. I like to show the world what is still sat about that you just dont notice what is there.
The format of this work will keep changing and progressing. It is the body of work I am creating for my masters project, so a lot is experimental. At the same time it is still a documentation of what has been left at that moment in time.
What is the cold war
The Cold War was a long period of tension between the Western World and the communist countries of Eastern Europe. The west was led by the United States and Eastern Europe was led by the Soviet Union. Although the two superpowers never officially declared war on each other, they fought indirectly in proxy wars, the arms race, and the space race.
The Cold War began not too long after World War II ended in 1945. Although, the Soviet Union was an important member of the Allied Powers, there was great distrust between the Soviet Union and the rest of the Allies. The Allies were concerned with the brutal leadership of Joseph Stalin as well as the spread of communism. The Cold War came to an end with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
.The key factors in the work are lighting and consistency in colours while making the images.
I am still completely undecided what it is I want to look at or is it just the fact I like all of it, the concrete, the metal the knowledge of that machinery could have created that much damage an is now sitting there rusting away.
All that is important for me is that I can light them up with my lighting equipment and make the remains of the Cold war
The start of the project was at the former RAF Coltishall site in Norfolk. It is a site that is full of history and you can read up a lot more through the Spirit of Coltishall site
Also thank you for permission Scottow enterprise park to allow me access to the site to create this work.
