Discover the breathtaking beauty of Dinorwic Quarry in Eryri (Snowdonia) during an exhilarating weekend photography session in Spring 2026. This immersive photography workshop is perfect for all experience levels, offering hands-on learning in one of the UK’s most striking landscapes.

What to Expect:

  • Explore the abandoned slate quarry and capture its stunning views of local valleys, mountains, lakes, and decaying industrial machines.

  • Photograph unique sunrise and sunset scenes at nearby locations.

  • Two nights of accommodation in the heart of Snowdonia included.

Techniques You’ll Learn:

  • Master the use of filters for landscape photography, including polarizing filters, graduated neutral density filters, and neutral density filters.

  • Learn how to extend shutter speeds to blur moving water and clouds.

  • Explore light painting techniques in the quarry’s darker areas and caves.

  • Improve your composition skills across a variety of locations with expert guidance.

Throughout the weekend, you’ll have my full support to enhance your technical photography skills while exploring the quarry’s most epic scenery, including cave systems, waterfalls, and panoramic views.

This is an idea of what to expect and is dependent on the weather conditions to maximize shooting potential.

Friday

Meet and greet.  

Sunset shoot starts at 4 pm in the area near the accommodation

Check-in at the private house and go out for dinner

Saturday

Breakfast Followed by a Sunrise shoot at the Lone tree

Full-day photographing of the Dinorwic Quarry until sunset

Depart from the mountain to get some dinner

Sunday

Breakfast followed by sunrise shoot at Ogwen Valley

Early-ish start in Dinorwic quarry                                      

Sunset at Capel Curig      

Essential Equipment for Participants

You will need to bring :

  • Camera

  • Spare batteries

  • Battery chargers

  • Memory cards with sufficient space for Multiple days of shooting

  • Selection of lens. Wide and Tele but you need to be able to carry it all-day

  • Lens cleaning kit

  • Tripod

  • Remote shutter release.

  • Walking boots

  • Waterproofs

  • Base-layer

  • Hat and Gloves

  • Spare Clothing

Please ensure you have suitable warm but breathable clothing and footwear. You are going to be hiking in an unforgiving region and the terrain will be undulating. The weather can turn very quickly so you will need to have appropriate clothing for the local climate.  We cannot guarantee the weather and most of the locations will include walking on unmade possibly muddy pathways. If you have any questions or need any guidance with this, then please do feel free to email and ask.

What is not included

  • Travel to and from the Guest House 

  • Travel in Wales on arrival and departure days, all transport is provided on the satuarday

  • Food and drinks are at the participant's own cost. We will stop at a pub or cafe on both Saturday and Sunday in between locations.
